It's been a rainy week since returning from Spring Break. That means LOTS of indoor recesses! Here's a little of what we've been working on...
Reading We had a short book club this week. We read short books this week to get an idea of how book clubs will work and next week we’ll get started with longer chapter books. Today we met for our first book club and discussed our reading from the week focusing on our thinking. For our daily, after-lunch read aloud we’re reading My Side of the Mountain. It’s about a kid who ran away to live alone in the woods. Writing This week we began working on the personal narrative mode of writing. We’re choosing a moment in our life when we felt, learned or accomplished something. Our goal is to write about just the one moment that we experienced. In order to write about the moment we learned to “funnel” our topic to one particular moment. Math We took a test on division this week. The past two days we’ve begun a new unit on patterns. Science We continue to create ScribblePress books showing what we’ve learned about electricity and magnetism. This week we’ve been experimenting with magnets: choosing a testable question and experimenting on our own with two different magnets to see which magnet was stronger. We also saw the magnetic fields by placing iron filings on top of a magnet so we could see the invisible field. Specials In PE we finished basketball and will begin jump roping next week. In Spanish we got new seats and are practicing animal names. In Computers we learned about new websites, such as Simple Wikipedia and Instagrok, and how to evaluate them. In Music we learned new songs and dances. In Library we learned that the book fair will be coming in a few weeks. |
